Dec. 2011 and Jan 2012 Behavior Targets for DMS Students

Douglas Middle School Behavior Targets:

 (For: December 2011 & January 2012)

 

1.       Appropriate School Behavior: (As measured by Behavior Tracking Forms)

a.       Politeness and Courtesy

2.       Appropriate use of Cell Phones: (As measured by Behavior Tracking Forms)

DMS Behavior Problem Areas Re-Teaching Lessons:

Lesson 1: Cell phone rules, consequences and reminders

·         Why it’s important:

o   Cell Phones shall not be used after they enter the school  (Handbook)

§  Consequences: Warning, 1 ASD, 2 ASD (items will be confiscated for each offense, and released to parent/guardian after the first offense.)

o   Cell phones are becoming more and more sophisticated with various features and subsequently more valuable.

·         Demonstration of examples of proper care and use and non-examples:

o   Turn off and put in locker or back pack when you enter the school (preferably not in pocket)

o   Put in school locker where it’s locked up and safe

o   Put in gym locker with lock that is locked

o   Use cell phone when allowed to due to a cancelation of a sporting activity or when emergency information needs to be passed to parents

o   Non-examples:

§  Text friend during lunch

§  Text mom in a.m. class to get pizza for lunch

§  Use video feature to video other kids

§  Use camera feature to take a picture of another student

§  Play Angry Birds on your phone/ipod touch

§  Check the internet on your phone/ipod touch

§  Etc…

·         Review, Practice and Reinforcement:

o   Teacher and staff (total school) backing of rules- all on the same page

o   Reinforce proper behavior when noticed

o   Review at lunch and flag ceremonies
